We Might Fight! (Handscreened version)

Se formaron  en Las Vegas en 1980, M.I.A. se mudó al Condado de Orange en 1981 y comenzó a tocar en el infame Cuckoo’s Nest junto con Fear, Shattered Faith, T.S.OL., etc.

A finales de año, fueron a un estudio de grabación local en Costa Mesa y grabaron 9 canciones en una tarde, hasta que se quedaron sin dinero: ¡300 dólares bien gastados!

Copiaron una cinta de casete a toda prisa y la repartieron. Kevin Seconds recibió una copia en un concierto con 7 Seconds en Reno. Kevin se la pasó a Tim Yohannan de Maximum Rocknroll. Finalmente, terminó en manos de Felix Alanis de Smoke Seven y Greg Shaw de Bomp.

A mediados de 1982, M.I.A. acabaron con tres lanzamientos de vinilo: «Tell Me Why» en la recopilación American Youth Report de Bomp, «New Left» en la recopilación Maximum Rocknroll Presents: Not So Quiet On the Western Front de Alternative Tentacles y 8 de los 9 temas del LP compartido Last Rites for Genocide and M.I.A. en Smoke Seven.

Los 9 temas se presentan aquí junto con los dos últimos temas del LP Last Rites, mezclados correctamente por primera vez.

Este lanzamiento marca el capítulo final de la campaña de reediciones de Modern City del catálogo de M.I.A., iniciada en 2023 con «Notes From the Underground» (National Trust, 1985) y «After the Fact» (Flipside, 1987), «Murder In a Foreign Place» (Alternative Tentacles, 1984) y un 7″ con dos recopilatorios: «Just a Dream» y «Turning Into What You Hate».

We Must Fight! viene en una versión estándar y una versión con portada serigrafiada a mano (limitada a 300 ejemplares), ambas en vinilo de color con un libreto de 24 páginas.

Formed in Las Vegas in 1980, M.I.A. moved to Orange County in 1981 and started playing shows at the infamous Cuckoo’s Nest along with Fear, Shattered Faith, T.S.OL., etc.

At the end of the year they went to a local recording studio in Costa Mesa and got 9 songs down to tape in one afternoon, until they ran out of money —$300 well spent!

A cassette tape was hastily copied and passed around. A copy of the tape was given to Kevin Seconds at a show with 7 Seconds in Reno. Kevin passed it on to Tim Yohannan of Maximum Rocknroll. It eventually ended up in the hands of Felix Alanis at Smoke Seven and Greg Shaw at Bomp.

By mid-1982, M.I.A. ended up on 3 vinyl releases: «Tell Me Why» on Bomp’s American Youth Report compilation, «New Left» on Alternative Tentacles’ Maximum Rocknroll Presents: Not So Quiet On the Western Front compilation and 8 of the 9 tracks on the infamous Last Rites for Genocide and M.I.A. split LP on Smoke Seven.

All 9 tracks are presented here together with the last 2 tracks of the Last Rites LP properly mixed for the first time.

This release marks the final chapter in Modern City‘s reissue campaign of M.I.A.’s catalog, started in 2023 with Notes From the Underground (National Trust 1985) and After the Fact (Flipside 1987), Murder In a Foreign Place (Alternative Tentacles 1984) and a 7” with 2 compilation tracks «Just a Dream» and «Turning Into What You Hate».

We Must Fight! comes in a standard version and a handscreened cover version (limited to 300), both on colored vinyl with a 24 page booklet.
